How do I connect my PC to a 3-D Ready HDTV or 3D projector?

Newer graphics cards have a HDMI port instead of a DVI port. In this case, simply use a HDMI cable to connect the PC directly to the TV.  Make sure to consult your TV's manual to check if a specific HDMI input must be used for 'PC' mode.

For older graphics cards, the DVI output from the PC's graphics card must be connected to the TV's 3-D compatible HDMI port using a DVI-to-HDMI cable (or a HDMI cable plus a DVI to HDMI adaptor).  Be careful to make sure that you use the correct input.  Some older Samsung and Mitsubishi 3D DLP HDTV products may require you to use HDMI input 3 or the HDMI input also labelled as PC input on the back of the 3D DLP HDTV.  Some 3D ready projectors may only support 3D on the analog VGA port, for these products you will need a DVI to VGA adaptor for your graphics card. 

Once properly connect make sure that you have activated a 3D output format within the chosen software on your PC to output in a 3D format that is acceptable by your 3D HDTV. For example, some products may require 3D DLP Checkerboard, 3D 120 Hz frame-sequential, 3D side-by-side at 60Hz or others.

 

What other applications can the TRU3D PC display in 3D on the TV?

In addition to games, photos, movies, applications, engineering software, animation software and web applications can all be generated in 3D by a PC and displayed on a 3D TV.  Additionally 2D Videos, 2D DVDs and 2D photos can be converted in real-time into 3D and viewed on a 3D TV if you have a 3D TV model and setup that is compatible with Tridef 3D Media Player.

Why doesn't my HP or Dell do 3D

Nvidia 3D Vision Quadro Graphics Boards Support Information

NVIDIA® Quadro® professional graphics boards support many stereo display solutions and Quad Buffered OpenGL applications, including NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses and displays. Support for NVIDIA 3D Vision on Quadro graphics boards is available on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Linux both 32 and 64 bit versions.

For Quadro boards with a stereo connector, use the 3-pin mini-din to 1/8” stereo cable that comes with the 3D Vision kit to connect the graphics board to the emitter. This cable provides a direct connection from the GPU to the glasses to make sure they are switching at the correct time.

DISPLAY SETTINGS

Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and enable the OpenGL stereo display method in the “Manage 3D Settings” tab.

When connecting to a 3D Vision-Ready LCD, Projector or CRT:

For boards with the stereo connector:

  • select “On-board DIN connector (with NVIDIA IR Emitter)”, Hit Apply
  • Plug in the 3 pin mini-din to 1/8” stereo cable that came with your 3D Vision glasses kit.

For boards without the mini-din:

  • select “Generic Active Stereo (with NVIDIA IR Emitter)”, Click Apply

Note: If using a 120Hz LCD, make sure the display refresh rate is set at 110Hz or 120Hz.  You may do this through the Nvidia Control Panel or through the Windows Desktop settings.

When connecting to a 3D capable DLP TV:

  • Select “3D DLP Display (with NVIDIA IR Emitter)”, Click Apply

Turn on stereo under the Stereo-Enable entry

Explain: NVIDIA Quad Buffered Professional 3D vs GeForce NVIDIA Consumer 3D

In OpenGL, active stereo is explicitly supported through quad buffered stereo as part of the OpenGL API. Quad buffered stereo has the added advantage of enabling stereo-in-a-window while Direct3D APIs do not explicitly support quad buffered stereo.

The GeForce driver is specially tuned to deliver active stereo for Direct 3D-based full screen games and 3D movies using the NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Movie player software.
